          Doulas

Labor doula:

A doula is an important support mechanism for a woman during labor & birth. A doula will be there early on during labor if the laboring woman requests her to be. A doula can provide support while a woman labors at home before deciding to go to the hospital or birth center as well. A doula will be able to tell you if this is “real labor” or not and  make suggestions as when to transition to the place of birth. As labor progresses she will provide comfort techniques such as massage, aromatherapy and a comforting/reassuring voice. The doula will aid in the involvement of the father as well. She will also stay for a few hours after birth to assist in the baby’s first latch and make sure mom and baby are well adjusted before she leaves. Our doulas provide women with 1 prenatal visits and 1 postpartum visit, in addition to your labor support.

Labor Doula:

On-Call $600 (no prenatal or postpartum visits, Doula only arrives for birth)

11-50 births Junior Doula $1200

51+ births Senior Doula $1800

          Postpartum doula:

A postpartum doula is hired to assist the family with the arrival of their new baby. The doula will ensure that mom is eating and drinking plenty and will assist is diaper changes & baths for baby as well. A postpartum doula can be requested during the day or night hours.

The role of a postpartum doula is to help a woman through her postpartum period and to nurture the family. Unlike a baby nurse, a doula’s focus is not solely on the baby, but on fostering independence for the entire family. The doula is there for the father, older children and always the mother and baby, treating the family as a unit that is connected and always changing.

The goal of a doula is to nurture the parents into their new roles. As they experience success and their knowledge and self-confidence grow, their needs for professional support should diminish.

Postpartum Doula: $45 per hour daytime, $55 per hour nightime

          Natural Childbirth Classes

Our childbirth education classes are a series. We focus on natural childbirth and allowing your body to progress the way it is intended. As midwives we teach how the womans body is made for pregnancy and childbirth, rarely allowing for any complications when allowed to progress naturally. The course allows you to see birth as a rite of passage that should be embraced and welcomed, not a painful experience to fear. We believe it is incredibly important for women and their partners to be educated about the process of labor & birth so they can enter with confidence.

1st Class – Our first portion focuses on the anatomy and physiology of labor and birth. This includes how women's bodies are made and how they work throughout the labor process. The babies are not forgotten when we teach of labor and delivery, as they are working just as hard in there to succeed at this huge task! Coping mechanisms during contractions are also taught, including visualization techniques and breathing. about nutrition, exercise and possible complications that may arise. This is also the time we address any fears you may have of childbirth so you can release them before birth time. During this class we will also go over myths of childbirth, breathing techniques and pushing techniques. We also discuss what to expect when labor begins, whether you chose a homebirth, birth center, or hospital birth, we touch on what to expect at each.

2nd Class – The second portion teaches teach about breastfeeding basics, newborn care including bathing, caring for the umbilical cord, changing diapers, etc. This class is taught by our IBCLC Sandra Lobaina

          Essential Oils

Essential oils can be AMAZING!! If you have ever enjoyed the scent of a rose, you’ve experienced the aromatic qualities of essential oils. These naturally occurring, volatile aromatic compounds are found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other parts of plants. Essential oils provide plants with protection against environmental threats and play a role in plant pollination. In addition to their intrinsic benefits to plants and being beautifully fragrant to people, essential oils have long been used for food preparation, beauty treatment, and health-care practices.

During the pregnancy:

-Headaches: Peppermint, Frankincense, Lavender

-Tired: Cypress, Peppermint, Wild Orange

-Nausea: Bergamont, Cardamom, Fennel, Coriander

Labor:

-Relaxing: Frankincense, Lavender

-Coping: Jasmine, Geranium, Lavender

-Increase Contractions: Myrrh, Cinnamon, Clary Sage
